BIGBELLY SOLAR COMPACTORS

On a recent trip to Boston I saw these on the streets and thought they were such a great idea and easy way for cities to clean up the environment that I had to mention them. The Bigbelly solar compactor is a street trashcan with a built-in compactor that is solar powered. The compactor means that the trash bin can hold exponentially more trash than it otherwise could, which means less gas spent on trucks driving around the cities emptying bins. When full, a text message is sent from the bin to the city which completely eliminates the need for unnecessary pick up trips. These things are a really cool easy step for cities to not only save a ton of money wasted on pick up trips, but also a small step to cleaning up the environment.
